DOHA: Forty Malaysian cyclists took part in a community cycling event organised by the Malaysian Association in Qatar (MAQ), in collaboration with the Malaysian in Qatar Cycling Community (MQCC) recently.
The event, held as the community’s celebration of Qatar National Day and the beginning of the New Year, was flagged off from the public park in front of Al Bayt Stadium by Malaysian Ambassador Zamshari Shaharan.
The venue was selected because this is a World Cup 2022 stadium as well as because of its fascinating façade reflecting local Qatari culture.
The route chosen was via the 33-km-long purpose-built Olympic Cycling Track. The cyclists participated in the event with a distance of 66 km for experienced riders and 24 km for amateur riders.
“The event was organised to further bring all Malaysians in Qatar together with the close support of the Malaysian Embassy,” MAQ President Mohamad Redzuan Nordin said.
MQCC President Zulkifli Mohd Zin said that especially while the country is coping with the pandemic outbreak, communities should continue with activities that keep them fit and healthy while staying safe and cycling is a perfect example.
