DOHA: The vaccination programme in Qatar is continuing to make rapid strides with 78.7 per cent of the eligible population receiving at least one dose.
Also, 98.6 per cent of those above 60 years, which is considered the most vulnerable population group, have received at least one dose while 93.5 per cent of them have received both the doses, the Ministry of Public Health has said.
In a couple of weeks, Qatar will achieve the milestone of fully vaccinating about 80 per cent of its eligible population.
The Ministry also said the country is recording, in recent weeks, a consistent reduction in the number of new daily infections due to the combined impact of Covid-19 restrictions, increasing vaccination rates and the overwhelming support from the community.
“However, it is still important to be cautious as the second wave is not yet over and there are still two highly contagious and highly virulent strains of the virus that are actively circulating in the community,” said the Ministry.
Qatar has recorded no Covid 19-related death in the past 10 days and the last recorded death was on 10 July. The death toll in the country from Covid-19 till date is 599. Yesterday, 108 new cases of coronavirus were reported
